Clete Willems, a former senior trade official in the Trump White House and partner at the law firm Akin Gump, will offer his views and insights on US trade policy. Having taken part in US trade negotiations with China from July 2018 to April 2019, Clete will discuss the issues and challenges we can expect to see in the next stage of trade negotiations between China and the United States, among other issues.
Clete joins Tatman Savio, the head of Akin Gump's international trade practice in Asia, who works extensively with Chinese and US companies as they navigate the trade war and increasingly complex export controls, sanctions, and foreign investment laws. Together, they will discuss US trade policy and its confluence with broader national security concerns, with a particular emphasis on China.
