Trade disputes are usually understood as conflicts between countries with competing national interests, but as Matthew Klein and Michael Pettis' new book shows, they are often the unexpected result of domestic political choices to serve the interests of the rich at the expense of workers and ordinary retirees.

In this book talk webinar, Matthew Klein will lay out the main theme of his new book and discuss the origins of US-China trade war.

Topics to be discussed

- Why the distribution of income matters for economic development and global trade

- China's post-1989 development model and the implications for US balance of trade

- Inequality in Hong Kong
