In the past few years, Southeast Asia (ASEAN) and particularly Vietnam have become a global investment hotspot which has received a lot of attention due to its relatively high economic growth rate. Vietnam, the economic leader in the region, is regarded as "The Rising Star'. It has received special attention because of its opportunity value recognized by worldwide investors, such as superior consistent government policy, additional free trade links, geographical location, young and productive workforce and low labor costs, etc.

Vietnam and supply chains based there have benefited from the massive inflow of foreign capital, and its GDP grew by 7.02% in 2019. According to recent data released by the Foreign Investment Bureau of the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam, the total foreign investment introduced by Vietnam in July was up to USD 3.15 billion, a year-on-year increase of 79.8% and a month-on-month increase of 76.2%, accounting for16.7% of the total investment in the first seven months in 2020.

So far lots of investment opportunities has been identified in Vietnam, however, what kind of investment opportunities are there? What are the prospects for investment in Vietnam?

Bill, serving as North America Representative for Becamex Vietnam & Binh Duong Province, has over 25 years of experience of providing business consultancy and promoting foreign investments into Vietnam, especially in manufacturing and supply chains industries. Bill has been managing more than 30 Vietnam events in US and Canada and bringing many US companies to Vietnam and Southeast Asia. In Vietnam, Bill has worked for US Commercial Service as a Senior Gold Key Executive and Canada Trade Office as a Trade Commissioner to help many US and Canadian companies explore business opportunities in Vietnam. He has also worked directly with more than 500 companies in North America that are interested in Vietnam market. Bill has been bringing many Vietnam business delegations to US and Canada to explore business opportunities there and is an active speaker on Vietnam market. Bill is also Vietnam business consultant for World Trade Center Tacoma in Washington State. Bill holds a bachelor degree in business administration from Ho Chi Minh City Economics University and another bachelor degree in international business from British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in Canada. Bill has also got MBA degree from Brussels Liberty University (ULB) in Belgium and is living in Seattle, Washington State. Bill can speak Vietnamese, English, French and Chinese (Mandarin).

Mr. Christopher W. Runckel, President and Principal of Runckel & Associates. Mr. Runckel has had a long association over his career with Asia. He worked in President Ford’s White House as Deputy General Counsel of the Presidential Clemency Board, which recommended clemency for Vietnam era draft deserters and evaders. In 1994, he was assigned to Hanoi as the first permanently assigned U.S. diplomat since the Vietnam War. In 1997, Mr. Runckel was recognized for the breadth of his contribution to U.S. - Vietnam relations by being awarded the U.S. Distinguished Honor Award, the highest U.S. Award for diplomatic service. In addition Mr. Runckel has served in foreign assignments in Hong Kong, Fiji, Thailand (two tours), London and in China. Mr. Runckel continues to advise Federal, State and Local government on a wide range of issues. He is a specialist in foreign trip planning and has served the last seven U.S. Presidents in this capacity. He was an advisor to the Shanghai Discovery Children’s Museum and Honorary Chairman of the U.S. Vietnam Business Council. He is an active speaker on Asian and business subjects to community, State and National groups plus works with many Universities and Colleges/ Mr. Runckel works extensively on projects all over Asia. His languages include Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German and Spanish.

Milton Hagler is General Director of Fluid Power and Controls, Co., Ltd., providing leadership since
2018. Located near Ho Chi Minh City, FPC manufacturers dispensing valves, hydraulic valves and
solenoids, and is a division of Deltrol Corporation. Prior to joining FPC, Milton was the General
Director of BriskHeat Vietnam, Co., Ltd. for 5 years manufacturing flexible cloth heater jackets for the
semiconductor tooling industry. During Milton’s tenure, he successfully leveraged both Vietnam
investments which allowed the companies to significantly grow market share, enhance customer
support, while growing operations, production and engineering capacity, and expanded responsibilities.
Milton has been an active member of the American Chamber of Commerce Vietnam, where he
currently serves on the Board of Governors. Before being nominated to the Board, he was Chairman of
the Manufacturing Committee and led the organization of the seminal annual Supplier Day event,
which proactively builds the Vietnam supply chain.
He earned a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Hawaii at Manoa Shidler
College of Business and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Sonoma State University
(California). A native of San Francisco, California, Milton has been living in Vietnam since 1998, after
first visiting as a tourist in 1992.

Tom is one of Vietnam’s most experienced tax specialists, having advised a wide range of businesses both international and domestic on all areas of Vietnamese taxation for over a decade. Tom has 30 years international tax experience.
Tom has extensive experience in the areas of tax compliance, tax planning and advisory for multinational companies investors in a diverse range of industries in Vietnam from consumer goods, oil and gas, manufacturing and distribution, financial services to media, information technology and real estate.
Tom is heavily involved in tax policy in Vietnam and contributing to the development of Vietnam’s tax regime, through a number of forums including in his role as Chairman of the Taxation Committee of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam.
Tom is included into the 2020 Guide to the World’s Leading Tax Advisers. Tom is licensed to practice as a foreign lawyer in Vietnam.

Tara Joseph has been president of AmCham Hong Kong since February 2017. She is charged with overall responsibility for leadership and operations of one of the most influential NGO business organizations in the Asia Pacific, with a mission to foster commerce among the United States, Hong Kong and mainland China.

Tara has more than 15 years experience working in Asia, covering top economic and political stories as a foreign correspondent for Reuters. In her 22 years as journalist, she has reported on hundreds of the world’s most important and high profile news stories including Russia’s financial crisis, Myanmar’s emergence from virtual isolation, China's rise on the world stage and the Beijing Olympics to name a few. As a TV reporter and presenter she has interviewed Fortune 500 CEO’s and government officials across the globe.

Earlier in her career, Tara was the editor and main presenter of Reuters Financial Television based in London, and covered emerging markets and G7 economic issues.

Tara is a graduate of the Columbia University School of Journalism, and Smith College in the United States. She has twice served as President of the Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Hong Kong, one of the world’s largest press clubs.
