Environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, the core elements of sustainability, are an increasing focus in the commercial world. The conduct of corporates in global trade is increasingly being scrutinized through an ESG lens by governments, regulators, NGOs and the public. Propelled by the momentum of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which includes the Sustainable Development Goals, there has been a proliferation of industry, regulatory and grass roots initiatives focused on sustainability in global trade. With sustainability increasingly viewed as a proxy for long term value, the benefit of sound ESG credentials for corporations is clear. Equally clear are the risks of falling behind and failing to adapt.

Edena Low is Chair at the Ethical Toy Program, the ethical supply chain program for the global toy and entertainment industry. The Program brings manufacturers, brands, retailers and civil society partners together to monitor, manage and fix social sustainability issues predominantly in the toy industry supply chain and to support the well-being of factory workers. It offers certification, assessment and monitoring tools which enable toy brands, retailers, manufacturers and industries associations to achieve responsible sourcing aims and drive standards.

Edena was until recently, Global Vice President of Supply Chain Compliance and Sustainability at Mattel, Inc. As the global leader for sustainability, Edena was responsible for the strategy and oversight of Mattel’s efforts in making safe and high-quality toys to children worldwide, in ways that respect people and with minimal impact on the environment. Her efforts lead to a significant reduction in workplace injuries and critical issues at factories worldwide, improvements in practices related to combatting modern slavery, and the adoption of environmentally sustainable approaches across operations, product and packaging.

In addition, Edena was founding board member at the Asia Toy and Play Association and chaired Mattel’s Women@Mattel ’s Hong Kong chapter, advocating and raising awareness around Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace.

Prior to joining Mattel, Edena was Chief Operating Officer for North Asia and Vice President of Asia Pacific Legal and Government Relations at Group RCI, a part of Wyndham Hospitality Worldwide.

Edena has more than 20 years of legal and government affairs experience in the Asia Pacific region. She has had stints at American Standard, Iomega and Ingram Micro, all US Listed corporations, after she began her career as a Corporate lawyer at Singapore’s largest law firm of Allen & Gledhill.

In her free time, Edena enjoys playing tennis and varied food experiences.

Kyle Bogler is the Director – Worker Rights and Safety for VF Corporation. VF Corporation is a global leader in branded lifestyle apparel, footwear, and accessories, (Vans, Timberland, The North Face, Dickies) with more than 50,000 associates and $13.8 billion in revenue. Since joining VF, Kyle has held multiple roles, visited factories, sourcing offices, and distribution centers in over 50 countries. He currently lives in Hong Kong and leads a team focusing on worker rights and safety across VF’s global manufacturing base of over 1000 factories, with more than 1,000,000 workers. Previous roles within VF included leading a team across Asia that conducted social, environmental, and safety audits, and a 1-year assignment as an engineering trainee in VF’s Internal Manufacturing Division in Merida, Mexico, and Santiago, Dominican Republic. Kyle has an undergraduate degree and MBA from the University of Iowa.

Matthew is based in Hong Kong and leads ASIFMA’s strategic and international policy advocacy on behalf of 135 member firms comprising international investment banks, asset managers, professional services firms and market infrastructure providers operating across Asia Pacific’s capital markets. He also leads ASIFMA’s thinking and policy advocacy on Sustainable Finance. Matt’s experience spans financial services, government, technology, market infrastructure, strategy, corporate governance, sustainability and environmental engineering. Previously, he was Head of Institutional Trade Processing (APAC) at DTCC and, prior to that, led APAC Strategy, Industry Relations and Marketing for Omgeo, a DTCC/Thomson Reuters joint venture. He has also held corporate planning and strategy roles at PepsiCo and Cadbury Schweppes, and worked as business and policy advisor for the Australian Commonwealth Government. Matt has Master of Commerce (Strategic Value Management), Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) and Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental – Hons) degrees. He qualified as a Graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) in 2018.

Tara Dermott is the Head of the UN Migration Agency, IOM Hong Kong SAR, China Sub-Office where she leads a dynamic team committed to supporting diverse migrant populations and the communities wherein they live. Current priorities include: promoting ethical recruitment of migrant workers; strengthening access to justice for trafficked persons; facilitating safe movement of vulnerable migrants; and continuing engagement with public and private sectors to realize the many positive benefits of labor migration.

As a strategic and experienced leader, Tara works with governments, civil society and industry leaders to collaboratively design and deliver innovative programs to prevent human trafficking, modern slavery and forced labor. From high profile media campaigns with positive messaging, through to the facilitation of practical training at the factory level, her work is grounded in over 15 years of technical experience and fueled by a passion for identifying and sustaining people-centered solutions.

Jeremy is a contentious regulatory and white-collar crime lawyer. Jeremy represents financial institutions and corporates on government investigations, internal investigations and regulatory enforcement. He also regularly assists multinationals in managing the compliance and conduct risk associated with operating in a complex regulatory environment across Asia.
His experience includes advising on complex fraud, anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, sanctions, insider dealing, market manipulation, corporate governance, cybercrime, market disclosure obligations, regulatory reporting and compliance framework assessments.

Jeremy is qualified in Hong Kong, New York and Australia and has spent time with US and European global investment banks in their litigation and investigations functions.

Jeremy holds qualifications in law, science, banking and business from the University of Western Australia, University of London and University of Pennsylvania.
