In this webinar, Ambassador Kurt Tong, partner at The Asia Group (TAG) and former Consul General and Chief of Mission in Hong Kong and Macau, will provide insights into the likely trajectory of US international economic policy in 2021. Following former Vice President Joe Biden's election, US-China tensions appear poised to deepen in nearly every facet of the relationship, including technological competition, maritime and territorial control, human rights, and economic resiliency. This will shape US priorities on trade and economic engagement across the region and will continue to impact nearly every sector in the Indo-Pacific.
Ambassador Tong will also detail the findings of TAG's 2020 Asia Power Trends report, identifying the ten most significant trends at the intersection of business and politics shaping the future of trade, commerce, and geopolitics in Asia. These political and economic issues will have wide-ranging implications for the region's business environment. In addition to continuing US-China rivalry, they include Asia's proactive and capable efforts to control the spread of the novel coronavirus, debates over the future of trade frameworks in the Indo-Pacific, and a rise in economic interventionism.
