The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) concept has recently received a great deal of attention from the business community, as it will offer new opportunities for Hong Kong.

What exactly is the GBA? What unique advantages does it create for different companies and industries? How have companies successfully captured the opportunity to grow at an accelerated pace? Please join the GBA series us as we investigate the GBA opportunity with industry leaders and authorities.

Our kick-off event will focus on unicorn companies' successful journey in the GBA and the role of Hong Kong in nurturing them. The panel discussion will feature speakers from a leading startup, start-up accelerator and Invest Hong Kong to share their experiences in the region.

Karena Belin, CEO of WHub and COO/CFO/RO of AngelHub, is passionate about technology & innovation and helping startups succeed. She successfully cofounded WHub and AngelHub with her associate Karen Contet. Together they are on a mission to empower startups to drive wealth and economic growth and foster the growth of the tech & innovation ecosystem.

Since 2013, Karena has been a leader in the global start- up scene and a pillar of the Hong Kong ecosystem. She acts as ambassador, consultant, speaker, mentor and judge at events and organisations such as the APK (Asia Pacific Conference of the German Industry), Startup Asia Berlin (SUAB) of the Senat to Berlin, Chicago Booth GNVC, Google EYE, RISE Conference and Web Summit, Jeju Peace and Prosperity Conference, FinTech Valley Vizag India, Techsauce Thailand, Tech Open Air Berlin, IFLR, Nexchange, Techstar’s StartupWeekendHK, global YPO YNG+ and more.

Karena is also a member of the Global FinTech Core Group at the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Ex-Com member and Vice President of The Indus Entrepreneurs Network (TiE) HK, ambassador to the German Senat in Berlin through SUAB (Startup Asia Berlin), member of the FinTech Association of Hong Kong (FTAHK), President of the board of the parent organisation (PFO) at Hong Kong International School, as well as driving diversity and inclusion as board member of WOW at the American Women’s Association.

In addition, Karena holds a double diploma in business and administration from the University of Mannheim and the MBA business school ESSEC in Paris. She has worked 15 years for Procter & Gamble in various roles including Finance, Sales and Strategy across Europe, North East Asia and Greater China before co-founding WHub & AngelHub. She has extensive background in business and financial planning, business acquisition and integration.

Ernest is the Group Chief Operating Officer at WeLab, a leading fintech company in Asia with one of the first virtual banks established in Hong Kong. WeLab provides financial services by creating seamless digital experiences to over 46 million users and 600 enterprise customers across Hong Kong, mainland China and Indonesia. WeLab operates WeLend and WeLab Bank in Hong Kong, WeLab Digital, Taoxinji and Tianmian Lab in Mainland China and AWDA in Indonesia through a joint venture with PT Astra International.

Ernest has over 25 years of experience in the banking and finance industry. Prior to joining WeLab, Ernest was the Singapore CEO and APAC COO at BNP Paribas Wealth Management. Ernest previously held a number of leadership roles across key Asia markets with extensive experience ranging from corporate strategy, business creation and transformation, to chief executive and board responsibilities across consumer & private banking.

Ernest holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia, Canada.

Mr. Peng is a seasoned business development veteran and management professional with 20 years’ hands on experience. He has deep understanding of the I&T ecosystem and general business environment in Hong Kong and the Mainland China. He is enthusiastic in I&T sector, covering biomedical, smart city, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Cloud, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics. Besides of I&T, he is also passionate in promoting the sustainability, ESG and CSR, impact investment concepts and good practices to the business community.

Prior to InvestHK, Mr. Peng was the Director, Manufacturing & Service Branch (Corporate) of Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA). He is familiar with ISO certification standards and international supply chain management and assessment, such as ISO9001, ISO14001, OHSAS18001, ISO22000, ISO27001, TL9000, ISO13485, SA8000, BSCI, ESG and Green Finance Certification etc. He led and active involved in the development, consultation, implementation of the new standards, certification system and registration schemes, covering finance, construction, recycling, elderly care, wine, start-up, fintech and supply chain sectors.

Mr. Peng holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
