The upcoming midterm elections in the United States will be the first national elections held under President Donald Trump. The result — whether Republicans hold on to their majority, or Democrats reclaim the House and possibly the Senate — will affect legislation, confirmations, and more over the next two years.

For our members that want to learn more about the potential effect of the elections, our panel of speakers will discuss where the Democratic and Republican Parties stand in the months before Election Day, the potential outcomes, and what they mean for American legislation and the business environment in the United States.

A Reuters veteran, Kevin Krolicki has worked for Reuters for 22 years in Tokyo, Los Angeles, Detroit, Washington and Singapore. He is currently based out of Singapore in the capacity of Regional Editor for Asia at Reuters.

Krolicki has been with Reuters since 1996. During his time with the company, he has served as a producer and bureau chief for the West Coast, Detroit, Japan and—more recently—Washington.

Kevin started work as a journalist near the peak of the Japanese asset bubble in 1989. He spent six years as a market and policy reporter at Knight Ridder (later Bridge News) and became Tokyo bureau chief there in 1995. He joined Reuters in 1996 as a producer for what was then Reuters Financial Television and became Asia editor for that service. In 2000, Kevin was named West Coast Equities EIC based in Los Angeles. In 2006, Kevin returned to Detroit, his home town, as bureau chief. In 2008, he was one of the team of reporters who won a SABEW “Best in Business” award for coverage of GM’s merger talks with Chrysler. He was named Reuters Editor of Year in 2013. Kevin graduated from Harvard University and has a Master’s Degree in journalism from the University of Michigan.

Keith Richburg is a journalist and former China correspondent who spent more than thirty years overseas for The Washington Post, serving as bureau chief in Paris, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Nairobi, and Manila. He covered the invasion in Iraq, the fall of the Taliban in Afghanistan, the US military intervention in Somalia, the genocide in Rwanda, and the 1997 handover of Hong Kong to China. After retiring from the Post in 2013, he became a fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University and a lecturer of international reporting at Princeton University. Keith’s coverage has won numerous awards, including two George Polk Awards, and was twice a Pulitzer Prize finalist for his reports from Somalia. His 1997 book, Out Of America: A Black Man Confronts Africa, chronicles his travels across Africa. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and has a master’s degree from the London School of Economics.

Nancy Hernreich Bowen is a Senior Advisor with Teneo Strategy. She has lived and worked in Asia for over 11 years. In her current capacity, Ms. Bowen utilizes her experience, knowledge of Asia, and senior level U.S. and Asian business and government relationships to assist Asian and American businesses with their cross-border business interests. As assistant to the President and Director of Oval Office operations from 1993-2001, Ms. Bowen’s responsibilities in the White House included: managing the President’s office, where she oversaw communications at all levels with the President; directing access to the President; maintaining the President’s priorities and schedule; and, as his longest serving senior aide, advising him on a range of issues and presidential matters.
