Yibing Mao Chief Legal Counsel – Asia Pacific at Marriott International, Inc. Yibing Mao is Chief Legal Counsel – Asia Pacific, her most recent role since joining Marriott International in 1996. She leads a multinational legal team across Asia Pacific that supports the development, lodging operations (including Asset Management, Brand Marketing, Sales and Consumer Insight, HR, and IT). Her team also has the responsibility of overseeing the implementation of legal compliance for the APAC Continent. Ms. Mao is part of the executive committee overseeing and responsible for the fastest growing business region in Marriott. Prior to the merger with Starwood, she assumed the dual role of Senior Vice President of Asset Management, heading up a restructure, financial analysis and partnership relations team. Before joining Marriott, Ms. Mao was an associate of the Hong Kong office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, a New York based law firm. She is a graduate of the School of Law of Duke University and Beijing University.

In this role she discusses world politics on Bloomberg Television and Radio and on Daybreak podcasts, and edits stories via the Editing Hub in Hong Kong, especially coverage relating to gender and diversity. Prior to this role, she was a senior editor on the TOP team, curating and managing the front page of Bloomberg News. She is co-leader of Bloomberg's Women's Voices project in Asia and helps lead the Bloomberg Women's Community in Hong Kong. She has held senior editing positions at Bloomberg, including running coverage of the U.S. Congress and tax policy from the Washington bureau in the U.S. Before coming to Hong Kong, she was an economics editor in Japan. Prior to joining Bloomberg, Jodi was an editor at The Washington Post, U.S. News and World Report magazine and Congressional Quarterly, among other publications. She is a past president of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers and headed the Fourth Estate Committee for the National Press Club in Washington. Jodi is active in the Foreign Correspondents Club in Hong Kong and appears regularly on panels discussing gender issues, U.S. politics and the future of journalism. She has a bachelor's degree in journalism and political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master's from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.

She has been with Baker McKenzie for 20 years originally with their Melbourne office and prior to that with ANZ Bank and a boutique Melbourne finance law firm. Elected to Partner in 2000, she has held many management positions including being the first internationally based Global Chair of Baker McKenzie's Compliance & Investigations Group from 2014 to 2017. During her tenure, she was instrumental in creating a cohesive, collaborative global powerhouse of over 900 lawyers in 77 offices across 47 countries ranking #4 in the Top 30 global investigations firms by Global Investigations Review in 2016 and 2017. She is the Baker representative on the World Economic Forum's Partnering Against Corruption Initiative (PACI), member of the B20 Anti Corruption taskforce (the corporate arm of the G20). She is a member of the HK 30 Percent Club, Women in Law Hong Kong and Vice President of the White Collar Women's Defense Association (HK Chapter).
