Choosing a secondary school can be an overwhelming prospect for most parents. In making their final decision, they must consider the school's academic curriculum, culture, learning environment and best fit for their child. This intimate panel event is designed to help make that decision a little less daunting.

In this panel session, leaders from some of the most recognized international schools in Hong Kong will share key features of their school in addition to discussing how it accommodates for the needs of their students. The goal of the event is to assist you in making the most informed choice for your child.

Annabel Davies attended some of the top independent schools in the UK including St. Swithun's School, Winchester where she completed her GCSEs before moving onto study music at Wells Cathedral School in Somerset. Annabel graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London with a B(Mus) in music and went on to complete a PGCE at the Institute of Education, University of London. Annabel spent nearly fourteen years teaching in London before moving to Hong Kong. Annabel's career has been in both the pastoral and academic sides of schools including roles such as Head of Year, Head of Department and Assistant Principal before taking on the position of Principal Deputy Head (Curricular) at Harrow Hong Kong.

At Harrow, Annabel oversees the curriculum from K1 to Year 13 ensuring it is balanced, creative and exciting. Her passion for teaching and learning with the aim of developing curious, empathetic and independent learners is something that she feels is at the heart of an excellent school. Pupils should foster the love of learning both inside and outside the classroom.

Annabel is delighted to be joining the panel today and looks forward to the ensuing pedagogical debate.

A teacher of over 40 years’ experience and a Principal for 22 of them in the U.K., Mexico and now Hong Kong, Brian Cooklin is the Founding Principal of Nord Anglia International School. The school has opened three campuses in three years and is part of the Nord Anglia Education group.

Educated in Glasgow, Brian is a former President of the Headteachers’ Association of Scotland, School Leaders Scotland and was an executive member of ASCL in England, as well as a council member of the International Confederation of Principals. Involved in a number of EU Education projects. Brian also served on Scottish and U.K. Government working parties and was a member of the UCAS Board.

An accomplished public speaker and trainer, Brian has spoken at conferences worldwide and trained teachers in three continents.

Stewart Redden is currently employed as the Learning and Teaching Adviser for the English Schools Foundation (ESF) in Hong Kong. He works with ESF secondary schools in an advisory capacity, mainly with regards to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP), IB Career-related Programme (CP), sustainability, student leadership, careers and further education. His role involves ensuring both the quality and innovation of the educational programmes offered so as to ensure that each ESF student can be the best they can be.

In terms of working with the International Baccalaureate, He is an IB DP/CP Verification Team Leader, IB DP/CP Visiting Consultant and a CP online/face to face workshop developer. He has previously worked in schools in Taipei, Singapore and Las Palmas.

Kyle Wagner is a Middle School Director and an innovations consultant for forward thinking schools. He is also a co-founder and former coordinator of Futures Academy at the International School of Beijing, a program that uses interdisciplinary project- based learning to connect students to their passions and the world outside of school. His book "The power of SIMPLE" documents this experience and helps provide simple, research- based strategies for school transformation. Kyle is also a former project leader at High Tech High, the school featured on the hit documentary “Most Likely to Succeed.”

He holds a M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership with a thesis that focuses on developing democratic classrooms and distributed leadership models. When not writing or teaching, he is performing with his original band, participating in karaoke contests and traveling the world. He currently resides in Hong Kong, where he spends time developing schools of the future while helping other school leaders build theirs.
