Event Details
You are cordially invited to attend the HK Department of Justice and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce's event regarding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. The online event (English session) will be held on January 26, Wednesday, 4PM to 5:30PM.
The Sale of Goods (United Nations Convention) Ordinance ("New Ordinance"), which implements the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) in Hong Kong, was enacted on 29 September 2021. The Convention is expected to apply to the HKSAR with effect in around the third quarter of 2022, tying in with the commencement date of the Ordinance.
CISG provides uniform rules to govern contracts for international sales of goods, with a view to removing legal barriers in, and promoting the development of, international trade. More than half of Hong Kong's top 20 trading partners by total volume of trade (including Mainland China, the USA and Japan) and nearly half of the total number of countries in the world are parties to CISG.
To help businesses prepare for the implementation of CISG, a panel of distinguished speakers will cover the following areas relevant to members of our Law Committee and Trade & Investment Committee:
- Overview of the salient features of CISG, as well as its differences from the existing legal regime in Hong Kong
- Potential effects of such changes on cross-border trade practices
- Practical tips concerning dealings in the international sale of goods under CISG
To register, please register via Zoom here (available to both HKGCC Members and Non-Members).
Upon successful registration of the event, a unique webinar access link will be sent by Zoom to your registered email.
Note: This event is jointly organized by the HKSAR Department of Justice and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.
