Hong Kong no doubt is undergoing an unprecedented transformation in many ways.

Amidst the challenges posed to Hong Kong over the past few years, Hong Kong seeks to maintain its leadership as an international financial center. In a new webinar series led by AmCham's Financial Services Committee, we will take a look at some emerging opportunities as we assess the future trajectory of Asia's World City.

In July 2020, AmCham's sentiment survey reported that only about 5.46% of companies would consider moving capital, assets, or operations in the short-run whilst another 30.05% would consider moving them in the medium to long-run. In contrast, AmCham's Business Outlook Survey in January 2021 indicated that over 71% of respondents think their companies will operate "as usual", or even seek to expand in the next 3 years.

In November 2020, the Hong Kong government unveiled a raft of new initiatives in the Chief Executive's Policy Address to strengthen Hong Kong's role as an international financial center. These measures target fund-raising, wealth management, fintech and closer financial links with the Greater Bay Area, further indicating continued investment in success and growth of the financial industry.

What does the future of Hong Kong's financial services industry look like?

This webinar series will explore four specific themes relevant to the development and evolution of the financial services sector in Hong Kong – green finance, asset and wealth management, capital markets, and digital finance – all of which are on the precipice of change. Each session will explore the challenges and opportunities across each theme for the different stakeholders as well as discuss policy measures that can enhance Hong Kong's role as a forward-looking and vibrant financial services hub in the years to come.
