As Covid-19 cases continue to surge in record numbers around the world, many countries have begun to roll out Covid-19 vaccination campaign. While there's light at the end of the tunnel, the distribution of vaccines could pose a major challenge; for example, two leading Covid-19 vaccines are required to be stored frozen. How to manage a smooth shipment while maintaining the cooling requirements? What kind of innovation breakthrough is needed to make vaccine delivery possible? We will also hear from a well known epidemiologist on the differences between the various kinds of vaccines, their advantages and limitations, the possible timeline to the end of the pandemic.

Dr. Sarah Borwein, MD (Toronto), LMCHK, FCFPC, MSc in Infectious Diseases (LSHTM), is a Canadian physician who has lived and worked in Hong Kong and Beijing for 22 years. She worked as a staff physician at the Beijing United Family Hospital where she was Director of Infection Control during the SARS outbreak in 2003. After returning to Hong Kong, she became one of the founding partners of what is now a large multi-disciplinary medical group. She has remained involved with infectious disease surveillance both globally and locally, continuing to follow her passion for public education about science.

She looks after a significant refugee population, is on the Board of Directors of the Patient Care Foundation, and is medical advisor to Outward Bound HK.

Having first-hand experience in the SARS epidemic in Beijing in 2003, and the COVID-19 epidemic in Hong Kong in 2020, Sarah has spoken and written extensively about the pandemic.

Sarah pursued an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Economics from Queen’s University in Canada and an MSc in Development Economics from Oxford University before attending medical school in Toronto. She then obtained Certification in Family Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada, followed by an MSc in Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She is married and has three grown children; she enjoys hiking, Pilates and yoga and used to love to travel.

Richard Broekman leads global sales and commercial development for ACMI, CMI and Commercial Charter products for Atlas Air. He also drives commercial development and support activities for revenue and capacity management throughout the Atlas fleet.

Mr. Broekman assumed his current position in January 2018, after having served as Vice President Global Sales and Commercial Development from 2014 to 2017. He joined the company in 2004 and held positions with increasing responsibilities in Finance and Business Development. Mr. Broekman has significant global expertize in global transportation, having worked and lived on several continents. Mr. Broekman and his team have been instrumental in optimizing our aircraft utilization and responding to increased demand for airfreight capacity caused by the pandemic.

Mr. Broekman holds both Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and Management Science from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.

Geoff Siebengartner is Managing Director of Regulatory and Government Affairs for Asia Pacific at FedEx Express.

Based in Hong Kong, Geoff manages FedEx Express relationships with government, key policymakers, and other influencers in the Asia Pacific region. He leads, develops, and implements strategies and tactics on regulatory matters in order to protect the Company’s interest and promote business growth. He serves on the board of the Conference of Asia-Pacific Express Carriers and chairs the Transportation and Logistics Committee at AmCham Hong Kong. Prior to joining FedEx Express in July 2017, Geoff was a U.S. diplomat for 14 years, working to advance the economic and trade interests of U.S. companies in foreign markets. He has more than a decade of experience working in the Asia Pacific region, with assignments in Beijing, Taipei, Shanghai, and Manila. Prior to his government service, Geoff worked in e-commerce and investment banking. In addition to English, he also speaks German and Mandarin.

Geoff holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from Emory University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is married to a U.S. diplomat and they have three children.

Tara Joseph has been president of AmCham Hong Kong since February 2017. She is charged with overall responsibility for leadership and operations of one of the most influential NGO business organizations in the Asia Pacific, with a mission to foster commerce among the United States, Hong Kong and mainland China.

Tara has more than 15 years experience working in Asia, covering top economic and political stories as a foreign correspondent for Reuters. In her 22 years as journalist, she has reported on hundreds of the world’s most important and high profile news stories including Russia’s financial crisis, Myanmar’s emergence from virtual isolation, China's rise on the world stage and the Beijing Olympics to name a few. As a TV reporter and presenter she has interviewed Fortune 500 CEO’s and government officials across the globe.

Earlier in her career, Tara was the editor and main presenter of Reuters Financial Television based in London, and covered emerging markets and G7 economic issues.

Tara is a graduate of the Columbia University School of Journalism, and Smith College in the United States. She has twice served as President of the Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Hong Kong, one of the world’s largest press clubs.
