How can US companies succeed in this region, especially China? How can Hong Kong companies continue to access the US market? How can Hong Kong, the international business city, play a constructive role against an increasing anti-globalization trend?

Dr Victor K. Fung is Group Chairman of the Fung Group, a Hong Kong-based multinational group which comprises major operating groups engaging in trading, logistics, distribution and retailing including privately held Li & Fung Limited and publicly listed Convenience Retail Asia Limited. Dr. Fung played a leading role in driving the development of the supply chain infrastructure at Li & Fung Limited, which has enabled it to become the leading consumer goods design, development, sourcing, and logistics company for major retailers and brands around the world.

Dr. Fung is Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Asia Global Institute at the University of Hong Kong, a multi-disciplinary think-tank co-established with the Fung Global Institute to assume and carry forward the Fung Global Institute’s mission to generate and disseminate research and ideas on global issues from Asian perspectives. He is Chairman of the 2022 Foundation, a non-profit entity focused on research into Hong Kong’s long-term competitiveness and Chairman of the Victor and William Fung Foundation, whose focus is the nurturing of human capital and supporting educational programmes. He is also an independent non-executive Director with Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited (Hong Kong).

Dr. Fung is a member of the Chief Executive’s Council of Advisers on Innovation and Strategic Development and Chairman of the Civil Service Training Advisory Board. He is also a member of the Governance Committee of the Hong Kong Growth Portfolio, a member of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee of Hong Kong Monetary Authority and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Finance. He is a former Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (1991-2000), a Hong Kong representative on the APEC Business Advisory Council (1996-2003),Chairman of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (1999-2008), Chairman of the Council of The University of Hong Kong (2001-2009), Chairman of the Greater Pearl River Delta Business Council (2004-2013) and Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme (2014-2018).

He is also a member of the International Business Leaders Advisory Council for the Mayor of Beijing, member of the Advisory Board of the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University, an Honorary Trustee of Peking University and an Honorary Professor of Renmin University. He is a former member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (2003-2018), Vice-Chairman of the China Centre for International Economic Exchanges (2009-2014).

Dr. Fung played a leadership role from 2007 in the Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce, of which he was Chairman from 2008 to 2010. From 2012 to 2013, he was a member of the World Trade Organisation’s Panel On Defining The Future of Trade.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Dr. Fung holds Bachelor and Master Degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After gaining his Doctorate in Business Economics from Harvard University, he taught as a professor at Harvard Business School before returning to the family business in Hong Kong in 1976.

Dr. Fung is married with three adult children.

Dr. Tao Wang is a Managing Director and Head of Asia Economic Research at UBS Global Research. She leads a top ranked team that covers macroeconomic and policy issues in Asia and China, and she has ranked as the top China/Asia economist in multiple Institutional Investor surveys. Dr. Wang advises China's policy agencies and the central bank on a regular basis, and attended the 2015 expert consultation session of Premier Li Keqiang. Prior to joining UBS, Dr. Wang was Head of Greater China Economics and Strategy at Bank of America and Head of Asian Economics at BP plc. Before joining the private sector, Dr. Wang was a Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) covering China. During the eight years she spent at the IMF, Dr. Wang was involved in program negotiations and annual consultations with member countries in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, and published a number of research papers. Dr. Wang served as a member of the Mainland Opportunities Committee of the Hong Kong Financial Services Development Council between 2016 and 2021.

Dr. Wang received her Ph.D. in Economics from New York University and her bachelor’s degree from Renmin University in Beijing.

Duncan Abate is a partner of Mayer Brown.

He is the Chair of the firm's Asia Board and also serves on the global Management Committee.

He advises on all aspects of employment and employee benefits law and regulation, including discrimination, labour relations, termination of employment, data privacy and the structure of employment relationships. He also advises on the establishment, maintenance and restructuring of occupational retirement schemes and mandatory provident fund schemes, as well as related documentation and services.

Duncan has been described as "the expert in employment law in Hong Kong" by Chambers Asia Pacific 2016. He has been "identified among the Top 25 Labour & Employment experts in the world" (The Expert Guide to the World's Leading Lawyers 2007) and amongst "the world's top practitioners in labour and employment" (Euromoney Expert Guides 2017). He is consistently ranked as a Leading Employment Lawyer in Legal 500 Asia Pacific, The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers and Chambers Asia Pacific.

Duncan serves on a number of community and business organisations, including the Employers' Federation of Hong Kong, the British Chamber of Commerce, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the Hong Kong Retirement Schemes Association and he is a member of the Election Committee to select the Chief Executive for Hong Kong.

Geoff Siebengartner is Managing Director and Head of Government Affairs and Corporate Responsibility in Asia Pacific for J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., based in Hong Kong.

Prior to joining J.P. Morgan, Geoff led the Government and Regulatory Affairs team in Asia Pacific for FedEx, managing relationships with government, key policymakers, and other influencers in the region. He also served on the board of the Conference of Asia-Pacific Express Carriers. Prior to joining FedEx Express in 2017, Geoff was a U.S. diplomat for 14 years, working to advance the economic and trade interests of U.S. companies, with assignments in Beijing, Taipei, Shanghai, and Manila. Geoff previously worked in e-commerce and investment banking. He speaks German and Mandarin.

Geoff holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from Emory University. He is married to a U.S. diplomat and they have three children.
