Join us for a special presentation featuring Archana Kotecha, founder of The Remedy Project, Dr. Wan Yee Lam, Managing Consultant of South Pole, and moderated by Nick Turner, Of Counsel at Steptoe & Johnson Hong Kong, about how major brands are tackling environmental and social issues in their supply chains and how producers big and small have taken practical steps to make (and evidence) improvements in their farming, manufacturing, and logistics practices.

We will cover the challenges multinational corporations are facing in fulfilling their environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) commitments and obligations, as well as the need for KPIs and targets that are S.M.A.R.T to measure the progress these firms are making in terms of their environmental and social performance in their supply chains. Nick Turner works with multinational financial institutions and corporations in the United States, European Union, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Australia, and other jurisdictions in Asia on all aspects of economic sanctions, anti-money laundering, and anti-bribery and corruption compliance and investigations. Prior to joining Steptoe, Nick served as a regional sanctions compliance officer, based in Hong Kong, for a US-based multinational financial institution, after completing the bank’s two-year compliance management associate program in New York and California. He has experience advising on a wide range of financial services, including commercial and retail banking, credit cards, trade finance, capital markets, and digital services, among others. Drawing on his in-house experience, he focuses on guiding clients on designing and implementing practical and risk-based compliance programs and advising on the application of regulations from the US Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and other agencies to clients' international businesses.

Nick has supported internal investigations and representation of a major, China-based telecommunications equipment company, US-based technology and consumer goods manufacturers, Europe- and Asia-based logistics companies, and Asia-based financial institutions, among other clients, before US enforcement agencies concerning compliance with US economic sanctions and exports controls regulations. In 2020, he was named to the Global Investigations Review (GIR) list of "40 Under 40" global investigations specialists.

Nick has also designed and delivered tailored trainings for clients on economic sanctions and anti-money laundering laws in the financial services, telecommunications, and manufacturing sectors. He is a frequent speaker at conferences and workshops throughout Asia and is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS).

Archana Kotecha is recognized as a regional expert on human trafficking and forced labour issues across APAC. A UK-qualified barrister and former corporate lawyer, Archana has over 15 years of experience advising international organizations (including the UN International Organization for Migration, UN International Labour Organization, US-AID), ASEAN bodies, governments and human rights practitioners on human trafficking and forced labour. Archana is widely published and regularly engaged as a subject matter expert by NGOs, governments and the private sector. In 2017, Archana was named one of the top ten innovative lawyers in Asia Pacific by the Financial Times and she is also an alumnus of the prestigious International Visitor Leadership Program run by the US Department of State. She is regularly named as an influential changemaker and was most recently named one of Asia’s most inspiring social entrepreneurs by APAC Entrepreneur.

Dr. Wan Yee Lam is the Managing Consultant, Climate Strategies & Agricultural Value Chains of South Pole. She has years of experience serving clients in the agricultural, building and construction, and banking and finance sectors in Asia Pacific, Europe and Americas. Prior to that, Wan Yee completed her PhD in environmental science on the topic of Variability in the Greenhouse Gas Footprints of Crops under the European Commission's Marie Curie industrial scholarship led by Unilever and Radboud University.
