Small & Medium sized enterprises (SME) are the backbone of the Hong Kong economy, accounting for more than 340,000 companies with over 1.2 million employees. Nonetheless, SMEs are more vulnerable during an economic recession due to weaker cash flow and financial structures.
The SME Financing Guarantee Scheme (SFGS) was first launched in 2011, helping SMEs and non-listed enterprises to obtain loan as to enhance their competitiveness. In response to the current economic downturn caused by COVID-19, the Financial Secretary announced a new scheme in his 2021-2022 Budget, to provide Special 100% Loan Guarantee to small businesses to weather through the storm.
