Simon Pontin is the Chief Technology Officer for Itron where he is responsible for driving technology innovation. A true innovator, Pontin has been integral to several successful industry transformations during his career, including the transition from electromechanical to advanced metering infrastructure or smart metering systems. Now he is involved in the transition from the smart meters to the smart grid, smart cities and the Internet of Things. Pontin is leading the development of Itron’s smart grid solution, OpenWay®. He has been involved with several international initiatives, including smart grid projects and opportunities in the United States, Europe and Japan. Simon has been on various industry advisory panels and was part of the Smart Grid Federal Advisory Committee that was formed to provide guidance for the smart grid.
