Stephen Roach
Senior Fellow at Jackson Institute of Global Affairs, Senior Lecturer, School of Management at Yale UniversityStephen Roach is a Senior Fellow at Yale University’s Jackson Institute of Global Affairs and a Senior Lecturer at Yale’s School of Management. He was formerly Chairman of Morgan Stanley Asia and the firm’s Chief Economist for the bulk of his 30-year career at Morgan Stanley, heading up a highly regarded team of economists around the world. Mr. Roach’s current teaching and research program focuses on the impacts of Asia on the broader global economy. At Yale, he has introduced new courses for undergraduates and graduate students on the “The Next China” and “The Lessons of Japan.” His writing and research also addresses globalization, trade policy, the post-crisis policy architecture, and the capital markets implications of global imbalances. Stephen Roach has long been one of Wall Street’s most influential economists. His work has appeared in academic journals, books, congressional testimony and has been disseminated widely in the domestic and international media. Roach’s opinions on the global economy have been known to shape the policy debate from Beijing to Washington. His latest book, Unbalanced: The Codependency of America and China (Yale University Press, Jan. 2014) examines the risks and opportunities of the world’s most important economic relationship of the 21st century. His 2009 book, The Next Asia: Opportunities and Challenges for a New Globalization (Wiley), analyzes Asia’s economic imbalances and the dangers of the region’s excess dependence on overextended Western consumers. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley in 1982, Mr. Roach served on the research staff of the Federal Reserve Board and was also a research fellow at the Brookings Institution. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from New York University. Mr. Roach is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Investment Committee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the China Advisory Board of the Environmental Defense Fund, and the Economics Advisory Board of the University of Wisconsin
Minxin Pei
Tom and Margot Pritzker '72 Professor of Government and George R. Roberts Fellow & Director of the Keck Center for Int’l & Strategic Studies at Claremont McKenna CollegeMinxin Pei is the Tom and Margot Pritzker '72 Professor of Government and George R. Roberts Fellow and the director of the Keck Center for International and Strategic Studies at Claremont McKenna College. He is also a non-resident senior fellow of the German Marshall Fund of the United States. Prior to joining Claremont McKenna College in 2009, he worked for a decade as a senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and served as its director of the China Program from 2003 to 2008. Pei was an assistant professor of politics at Princeton University from 1992 to 1998. His research focuses on economic reform and governance in China and US–China relations. He is the author of From Reform to Revolution: The Demise of Communism in China and the Soviet Union (Harvard University Press, 1994), China’s Trapped Transition: The Limits of Developmental Autocracy (Harvard University Press, 2006), and China’s Crony Capitalism: The Dynamics of Regime Decay (Harvard University Press, 2016). Pei’s research has been published in Foreign Policy, Foreign Affairs, Daedalus, Asian Survey, the National Interest, Modern China, China Quarterly, Journal of Democracy, and many edited books. His op-eds have appeared in the Financial Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Fortune.com, Nikkei Asian Review, and Project Syndicate. He received his Ph.D. in political science from Harvard University.
Charles Li
Chief Executive at Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing LtdCharles Li has served as Chief Executive of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) since 2010. In this role, Mr. Li has orchestrated some of the most significant strategic initiatives in HKEX’s history, including the acquisition of the London Metal Exchange in 2012, the launch of OTC Clear in 2013, and the introduction of Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect in 2014, Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect in 2016, and Bond Connect in 2017. He has sought to strengthen Hong Kong’s role as an offshore Renminbi hub and led HKEX’s efforts to reform its listing regime to maintain Hong Kong’s competitiveness and secure its position as a leading IPO centre.
Mr. Li was born in Beijing and grew up in Gansu. Before leaving China for further study, Mr. Li was an offshore oil worker in the North China Sea and then an editor-reporter for China Daily. After completing his Juris Doctor (JD) degree in the US, Mr. Li practiced law in New York with Davis Polk & Wardwell and Brown & Wood. Before joining HKEX, he was Chairman of JP Morgan China, prior to which he was President of Merrill Lynch China.
Mr. Li obtained a BA degree in English literature from Xiamen University in 1984, an MA degree in journalism from the University of Alabama in 1988, and a JD degree from Columbia University School of Law in 1991.
Robert Grieves

Robert T. Grieves is Founder and Chairman of Hamilton Advisors Limited, a strategic communications firm established in Hong Kong in 2009. Following a career in journalism for The Times (London) and The Economist, both in Beijing, and Time magazine and Forbes, in New York, Robert served in top-tier regional and global communications roles. His communications career includes senior positions at Burson-Marsteller, Head of Marketing and Communications for Merrill Lynch Asia Pacific, Global Head of Communications for The Bank of New York and President, Hong Kong, for Edelman.
Robert is Vice Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and a former Chairman (2015-2017) of the Council of Public Relations Firms of Hong Kong. He has lectured at Tsinghua University in Beijing, at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, at the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C., and in Nanjing as a speaker at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council conference on Chinese brands.
Robert graduated from Hamilton College magna cum laude with a B.A. in British literature and East Asian history, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his M.S. in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and a concurrent certificate from Columbia’s East Asian Institute.
Tara Joseph

Earlier in her career, Tara was the editor and main presenter of Reuters Financial Television based in London, and covered emerging markets and G7 economic issues. Terrance Philips
Managing Director, Asia Head of Private Equity, Client Coverage at Citi Private Bank, Asia PacificTerrance Philips is a Managing Director at Citi Private Bank in Hong Kong, acting as the Asia Head of Private Equity Client Coverage. In his role he is responsible for developing relationships with General Partners of Private Equity Firms and their respective Funds across Asia. Philips managed relationships with more than 130 international venture capital firms throughout Asia, Europe, Israel and South America.
In addition, he is an advisor to the board of directors of both the China Venture Capital Finance Organization and the Hong Kong Private Equity Finance Association. Terrance is also a board member of the Children’s Medical Foundation, a Hong Kong based non-governmental organization focused on saving lives of new born babies in rural China. He is a member to the Hong Kong Select USA Committee focused on generating Direct Foreign Investment to the USA.
Philips holds a bachelor’s degree in international business from Pepperdine University, and a MBA from Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business. Prior to Business School, Terrance was also a mentor for BUILD, a nonprofit organization committed to motivating under-resourced high school students to succeed in school and go to higher education by helping them start and run their own businesses.
Duncan Turner

Nisa Leung

During her time at Weil Gotshal, she represented clients in the TMT sector, including a consortium of investors including Providence Equity Partners in its acquisition of 26% of TVB, a free-to-air producer and broadcaster in HK and China Media Capital in its acquisition from News Corporation of three Chinese television channels and a movie library. She also has experience in equity offerings and corporate governance matters involving Hong Kong public companies. Carrie received her Law degree from London School of Economics and Political Science. Prior to that, she received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Economics from University of Michigan – Ann Arbor.
Tama Churchouse

James Lloyd

James Lloyd leads EY’s dedicated financial technology capability across Asia-Pacific, focused on supporting early-stage, growth-stage, and non-traditional financial services. He is also APAC leader of the firm’s payments practice. He is a partner in Corporate Finance Strategy. Prior to EY, James helped build and scale a venture-backed alternative-finance platform enabling banks to profitably offer short-term unsecured loans to underserved small businesses. Before that, he worked with a bootstrapped e-commerce payment gateway combining direct-to-market customer acquisition with white-labelled full-service delivery for partner banks. Based in Hong Kong, James sits on a variety of governmental and non-governmental advisory panels – including the new business committee of the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) – and is regularly quoted in local and international media.
Jan Metzger
Head – Asia Pacific, Corporate and Investment Banking at CitigroupJan Metzger has over 23 years of experience. He started his career as a software engineer working on Voice Recognition systems. He then worked as a management consultant helping multinationals improve their operations. In 2000, he started Technology Investment Banking in Europe. He moved to Asia in 2007 and has been involved in many landmark Technology deals including the IPO of Alibaba.
Jan graduated from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom with a Master of Philosophy in Economics. Prior to that, Jan received a Bachelor Degree (double major in Economics and Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence) from University of Sussex, United Kingdom. Jan is a German national who grew up in Sri Lanka.
Sabrina Lin
Vice-President for Institutional Advancement at Hong Kong University of Science and TechnologyPrior to joining HKUST, Sabrina held a number of executive positions in the IT sector. At Cisco Systems, these included Global Vice President, Commercial & Multinational Corporation Business (Asia Pacific, Japan & Greater China); Global Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer (Asia Pacific, Japan & Greater China); Managing Director, Strategy and Operations (Asia Pacific, Japan & Greater China). At Hewlett-Packard (HP), these included Executive Director, BRIC Strategy and Business Development, as well as R&D Director, Digital Information Management and Subscription Services. Sabrina was also co-founder of two start-up companies in Silicon Valley, one of which focused on commercialization of educational research, and another which provided professional information and services to enhance personal, social and business effectiveness.
A native of Hong Kong, Sabrina holds a master’s degree in statistics and a doctorate in psychology, both from Stanford University. Sabrina enjoys jogging and hiking and, as a mother of four children, exploring the world with her family.
Perry Wong
Managing Director, Research of Milken InstitutePerry Wong is managing director of research at the Milken Institute. Wong is an expert on regional economics, development and econometric forecasting and specializes in analyzing the structure, development and public policies of a regional economy. He performs research on labor and workforce issues, the role of technology in economic development, and trade and industry, with a focus on policy development and implementation in both leading and disadvantaged regions in the United States and China, Taiwan and other parts of Asia.
He began his career in regional industry analysis, spatial economics, industry development which he applies to his work at the Institute in studies such as "Manufacturing Matters: California's Performance and Prospects" and “Jobs for America: Investments and Policies for Economic Growth and Competitiveness. He is a graduate of Temple University.
Andrew Weir

Andrew is the Regional Senior Partner of KPMG in Hong Kong. He has over 25 years' international experience servicing listed companies, public bodies, investment funds and MNCs in Hong Kong, Asia and internationally. He is the Global Chairman of Real Estate and Construction, and ASPAC Chairman of Infrastructure, Government and Healthcare, which also includes the real estate, hospitality and transport sectors.
Andrew was appointed by the HKSAR Government as a council member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), and a member of the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) and FSDC Policy Research Committee.
Andrew is Chairman of the Listing Committee of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and sits on the advisory panels of the Securities Institute, Hong Kong Investor Relations Association and Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
Andrew has served as Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, and is also the Chairman of the Pacific Basin Economic Council, and a member of the World Economic Forum B20 Trade and Investment Taskforce. He is also a board member of the Asia Pacific Real Estate Association (APREA) and the Asian Association for Investors in Non-listed Real Estate Vehicles (ANREV).
Andrew was made an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2017 for his contribution to trade and investment links between Hong Kong and the UK.
Miles Wen
CEO & Founder of Fano LabsMiles Wen received his Bachelor degree in Computer Engineering with First Class Honors and minor in Finance from HKU in 2011. He then obtained his PhD degree in Electrical & electronic Engineering under Prof. Victor Li from HKU in 2015.
Dr. Wen is an alumni of Lee Hysan Hall, former resident tutor at New College, former Founding Vice-President of Eta Kappa Nu (Lambda Iota Chapter) at HKU, and former Fulbright scholar at Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, UC Berkeley. He is an expert in power system, information and communication technologies, optimization algorithms, big data, and machine learning. He is the author of over 10 academic papers and the inventor of one patent. In 2015, he co-founded Fano Labs Limited, a high-tech startup backed by HKU, Hong Kong Science & Technology Park, angel investors, and venture capitalists. He is currently the CEO of Fano Labs. Since early 2016, he has been appointed as an Honorary Assistant Professor (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) at HKU.
Anthony Scriffignano
Senior Vice President, Chief Data Scientist at Dun & BradstreetAnthony Scriffignano in an internationally recognized data scientist with experience spanning over 35 years, in multiple industries and enterprise domains. Dr. Scriffignano has extensive background in linguistics and advanced algorithms, leveraging that background as primary inventor on multiple patents worldwide. He provides thought leadership globally.
Recently, he briefed the US National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee and contributed to reports to the President on Big Data Analytics, Emerging Technologies Strategic Vision, and Internet and Communications Resilience. Additionally, Scriffignano provided expert advice on private sector data officers to a group of state Chief Data Officers and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. He also served as a forum panelist and keynote speaker at the World Internet Conference in China hosted by President Xi Jinping, as well as at the China Development Forum and Big Data Expo in Guiyang. His white paper A Strategy For Inclusive Development In A Big Data Context was delivered to the State Council of the People’s Republic of China. Scriffignano was recently recognized as the U.S. Chief Data Officer of the Year 2018 by the CDO Club, the world's largest community of C-suite digital and data leaders.

Shai Oster
Asia Bureau Chief at The Information(Moderator)
Shai Oster is the Asia bureau chief for The Information, based in Hong Kong, where he will cover technology companies in Asia. Over nearly two decades as a journalist in China, Europe, and the U.S., he has covered a broad range of economic, business and social issues. Oster was previously reporter-at-large for Bloomberg News in Asia. In 2013, he won his second Asia Society Osborn Elliott Journalism Prize and George Polk Award for his role in Bloomberg’s groundbreaking coverage that for the first time documented the fortunes amassed by China’s leaders. Before joining Bloomberg, Oster was a Beijing and Hong Kong-based correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, covering energy and the environment. In 2008, he was the recipient of both the George Polk Award for environmental reporting and Asia Society’s Osborn Elliott Award for a series of stories exposing environmental problems linked to China’s Three Gorges Dam project. He was also part of a team of Wall Street Journal reporters that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2007 for International Reporting on China for reports on the adverse impact of China’s growth. Previously, he covered OPEC for Dow Jones Newswires in London and served as Beijing bureau chief for Asiaweek magazine. His first job in China was as a copy editor at China Daily, the official English-language newspaper in Beijing. A graduate of the Columbia University Journalism School, Oster was born in Jerusalem and speaks Hebrew, French and Chinese.
Neil Pabari
Managing Director, Financial & Risk business in North Asia of Thomson ReutersBased in Hong Kong, Neil Pabari is the Managing Director for the Thomson Reuters Financial & Risk business in North Asia. Neil joined Thomson Reuters in 2011 as an FX sales specialist from where he moved on to various roles within the firm, working in core businesses including electronic and online trading, wealth management, asset management and exchanges. Prior to his current role, Neil had been running the MiFID II program for Thomson Reuters in Asia.
Neil began his career working as an FX trader in London before moving to Singapore in 2001 to work as a relationship manager in private banking. In 2004 he co-founded a CFD and FX brokerage firm and was its COO until 2009 when he successfully exited the business. He has since founded, advised and invested in multiple start-up and early stage companies across various sectors including online trading, IT services, property development and leisure companies amongst others. Neil holds a BA and MA from Oxford University and is married with one son.
