The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong Web Site Privacy Statement

The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (“AmCham”) is deeply committed to protecting the privacy of internet users. In doing so, AmCham has adopted guidelines which serve as the basis for our work on the world wide web. These guidelines have been developed with the recognition that internet technologies are rapidly evolving, and that underlying business models are still not established. Accordingly, these guidelines are subject to change. Such changes will be posted on this page.

Below is information outlining our support for the responsible management of personal information. Please read the following terms and conditions relating to your use of the AmCham web site carefully. By accessing and using the AmCham web site, you agree to be bound by the terms of this Privacy Statement. If you choose not to accept the stipulated terms and conditions, please do not use this web site.

Personal Information

During the process of delivering web pages and advertisements to visitors of our web site, AmCham does not collect any personally identifiable information about you such as name, address, phone number, or e-mail address. However, AmCham does obtain some types of non-personally identifiable information such as the internet service provider you use to connect to the internet, your web browser type, or the type of computer operating system you use (Macintosh or Windows, for example). AmCham does not employ the use of "cookies" in the gathering of such information or in the delivery of other content.

The information collected by AmCham is used for learning how we can better serve the needs of our users; for systems administration and troubleshooting, and for measuring the effectiveness of site content.

In some cases, you may voluntarily provide personal information: completing an online application, order form, or survey. Online purchases involving credit card or cheque numbers are done via secure protocols; all information you input is encrypted, then sent to directly AmCham. Messages sent to AmCham via the web site’s e-mail hyperlinks or feedback page are not encrypted and may be viewed by AmCham or used in advertising material, in both cases without compensation. AmCham cannot be responsible for the use of e-mail messages sent to any recipients other than AmCham via the web site’s email hyperlinks. All information sent to AmCham may be stored in aggregate form so we can better understand the type of individuals who use our web site. If the information that you volunteer will be used in any non-aggregate form, this will be clearly indicated on the page requesting information.

Children Under 13

If you are under the age of 13, do not send us information about yourself, including your name, address, or e-mail address. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. In the event that we learn that we have collected any personal information from a child under the age of 13 without verification of parental consent, we will remove that information as quickly as possible.

Protecting Your Privacy Online

While AmCham has taken reasonable steps to limit the uses of information provided by you as described in this Privacy Statement, we cannot guarantee that the information will remain permanently secure. There is always a possibility that your information could be lost due to technical problems or stolen from our databases by malicious computer users. AmCham is not responsible for any such loss or theft.
